Student of the Month – Oct. 2012
Katie Kaiser a senior majoring in Hospitality Management within the School of Applied Sciences at The University of Mississippi in Oxford takes the meaning of “hospitality management” to a new level. Katie is a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College where she is completing a thesis investigating the UM students’ perception of Mississippi as a tourist destination. She serves as second in command on the Chapter Management Team for Delta Gamma Sorority. She is quite active at Ole Miss and is currently President of Ole Miss Ambassadors for Southern Hospitality. She has served as a Co-Director on the Student Programming Board Executive Council, and was recently inducted into Mortar Board Senior Honor Society. Even with rigorous academic requirements and leadership roles, she maintains a 3.7 GPA and has been nominated for membership in the Golden Key Honor Society that recognizes the top 15% of the senior class.
Katie’s passion for the Hospitality Industry has awarded her many study opportunities in locations including the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC, Dickie Brennan’s New Orleans Restaurants, and Hollywood Casino, Tunica. She has received several scholarships (Lucky Day, Delta Gamma Foundation Scholarship, and the Hospitality Management Foundation Scholarship). Katie was born and raised in Olive Branch and is a former Miss Olive Branch (2009). She was chosen 1st Alternate to Mississippi’s Miss Hospitality Pageant this past summer recently voted to the Top Ten in the University’s Parade of Beauties. Katie attended Desoto Central High School is the daughter of Robert and Kathleen Kaiser of Olive Branch.
