Scholarships and Financial Aid

SAS students can apply for a number of scholarship opportunities.

Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies

Scholarship range from $500 to $2,000 distributed over the fall and spring semester. Check out the scholarships available to Criminal Justice Majors below!

  1. Fill out the Department of Criminal Justice & Legal Studies Scholarship Application at this link: https://uofmississippi.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2sGG9pk1pEYOFj8. Make sure that all sections are complete.
  2. If you have not already done so, submit the Free Application for Financial Student Aid(FAFSA). The FAFSA is used to determine financial need for Scholarships. We recommend you apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov for fastest results.

  • Criteria: The recipient shall be a full time Criminal Justice/Law Studies, demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum GPA of 2.25.
  • Selection Process: Committee comprised of the Dean, Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Department Chair, and Criminal Justice and Legal Studies faculty.

  • Criteria: The recipient shall be a full time Junior or Senior Criminal Justice and Law Studies major.
  • Selection Process: Recipients shall be selected based on academic excellence, community involvement, integrity, and commitment to the program. Selection shall be made by a committee which consists of the Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies chair, Criminal Justice and Legal Studies professors and Joan Popernik or her designee in consultation with the Dean of the School of Applied Sciences.

  • Criteria:  The recipient shall be a full time Criminal Justice/Law Studies major, classified as a senior for the fall semester prior to applying.  Minimum GPA of 3.75.
  • Selection Process:  Recipients will be selected by the department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies faculty scholarship committee and approved by the Department Chair.
  • Deadline: Application must be submitted by February 1

  • Criteria:  The recipient shall be a Criminal Justice/Law Studies major.
  • Selection Process:  Recipient shall be selected based on academic excellence, integrity, and commitment to the program.  Selections shall be made by a committee which consist of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies faculty.

  • Criteria:  The recipient shall be a Criminal Justice major.
  • Selection Process:  Recipient shall be selected based on being an incoming freshman enrolled full-time.  Recipients must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.75 or higher, be pursuing a degree in criminal justice, and contribute to the diversity of the Department of Criminal Justice & Legal Studies.

  • Criteria:  The recipient shall be a Criminal Justice major, enrolled full-time, and who has taken or is enrolled in CJ450 (Criminal Justice Research Methods).
  • Deadline: Application must be submitted by April 15.

  • Criteria:  The recipient shall be Law Studies major.
  • Selection Process:  Recipient shall be selected based on academic excellence, integrity, and commitment to the program.  Selections shall be made by a committee, which consists of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies faculty.

Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management

Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, professional motivation, and financial need.

• Unofficial transcripts of UM and non-UM academic courses
• Recommendation letter
• An essay of up to 500 words. Include all of the following topics:

  • What you believe in OR a person that has influenced you the most
  • Your future career goals
  • How your current education program in NHM will help you in achieving your goals
  • Your personal attributes and skills that will help you achieve your goals

NHM Scholarships Application Form

The Vallabhbhai G. Patel Endowment provides scholarships to high achieving and promising students majoring in Hospitality Management.

Minimum Criteria for Selection:

  • Hospitality Management major
  • Full-time enrollment status (minimum of 12hrs)

 

The Ole Miss Hospitality Management program provides scholarships to high-achieving and promising students and/or students who strengthen diversity at the University of Mississippi.

Two scholarships are available each year. The selection criteria are based on the following:

L e v e l 1

  • A first-generation college student
  • Incoming freshman or upcoming sophomore
  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher

L e v e l 2

  • Financial need as determined by the free application by FAFSA
  • upcoming junior or senior
  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Full-time enrollment status (minimum 12hrs)

(note: Level two's essay is 1000 words)

The Susan C. Haskins Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to high achieving and promising students majoring in Hospitality Management

Minimum Criteria for Selection:

  • Hospitality Management major
  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Full-time enrollment status (minimum of 12hrs)

The Vasilyev Family Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to high achieving and promising students majoring in Hospitality Management.

Minimum Criteria for Selection:

  • Upcoming junior or senior
  • Hospitality Management major
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Full-time enrollment status (minimum of 12hrs)

The Sydney E. Pucheu Hospitality Management Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to motivated students majoring in Hospitality Management.

Minimum Criteria for Selection:

  • Hospitality Management major
  • Full-time enrollment status (minimum of 12hrs)

The Rodney Chamblee Memorial Scholarship is for high achieving and promising students majoring in Hospitality Management.

Minimum Criteria for Selection:

  • Hospitality Management major
  • Full-time student classified as juniors
  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Mississippi resident

The Tommy Ramey Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to high achieving and promising students majoring in Culinary Arts (both HM and DN eligible).

Minimum Criteria for Selection:

  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Full-time enrollment status (minimum of 12hrs)
  • Evidence of participation in student activities and/or extracurricular activities
  • Mississippi resident

The Louise Burnett Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to high achieving and promising students majoring in Dietetics and Nutrition.

Minimum Criteria for Selection:

  • Dietetics and Nutrition major
  • Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Full-time enrollment status (minimum of 12hrs)
  • Outstanding academic and leadership record

Department of Social Work

Our departmental scholarships are tailored to your needs as a Social Work student.
