As a part of the School of Applied Sciences, The National Food Service Management Institute is the only federally funded national center dedicated to applied research, education, training, and technical assistance for child nutrition programs.

Regarding the institute, First Lady Michelle Obama says in a new video, “[NFSMI] offers all kinds of assistance on topics including financial management, menu planning, the Healthier U.S. School Challenge, plate waste, and other important issues that you all confront every day.”
